GILFORD ---- Anita Louise (Mitton) Hewitt, 88, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston with family by her side.
Anita grew up in Saugus, Massachusetts, the daughter of Willis and Florence (O’Neal) Mitton. She was a 1954 graduate of Saugus High School. At 15 she started working as a page at the Saugus Public Library and continued to work there until 1981 when she moved to Gilford, NH. She finished her career at the Gilford Public Library at the age of 75.
Anita was known for her smile and happy-go-lucky personality. She was a most unselfish woman, who never complained or wanted to inconvenience anyone. She was a strong matriarch to a large family who loved her immensely.
If Anita was not spending time with family and friends, you would find her reading, scrapbooking or working in her gardens.
She is survived by three children: Douglas Hewitt and partner Sheila Parsons of Gilford; Bruce (Nancy) Hewitt of Gilford; Lois and (Lou) LaVoie of Peabody, MA; grandchildren: Andrea Dean, Jessica Lavers, Amanda Hernandez, Christopher LaVoie, Dan Hewitt, Ashley Hewitt, Russel Gioseffi, Shauna Hewitt; and 12 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way). She was predeceased by her husband Carl Hewitt; sister Diane Mitton; brothers Neal and Wayne Mitton and a grandson Douglas Hewitt, Jr.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at 1:00pm at the Gilford Community Church.
Interment will be private at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Gilford in the spring.
