Obituary

CHARLTON – Leola A. (Savage) Schofield, 96, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2025 in Quaboag Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center, West Brookfield, after a period of declining health. Her husband of 50 years, Courtney S. Schofield, died in 2006.

She leaves 7 children, Kevin C. Schofield, Sr. of Oxford, Donald F. Schofield and his wife Cheryl of Worcester, Peter R. Schofield and his wife Elizabeth of Winchester, KY, Heidi Prime and her husband Mark of London, KY, and triplets, Alane M. Schofield and Brenda M. Schofield, both of Charlton, and Caryn M. Norton and her husband Ralph of Quinebaug, CT; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Dale Schofield in 1985, by her sister Eleanor Savage in 1983 and by her brother Freeland Savage, Jr. in 2017.

She was born on July 7, 1928 in Kingfield, ME and raised there, a daughter of Freeland Savage, Sr. and Augusta (Barnjum) Savage and graduated from the town’s high school in 1946. She resided in Oxford from 1955 to 1991 when she moved to Charlton.

Mrs. Schofield was a clerk at State Mutual in Worcester and then at The Fair in Auburn. She worked at Filene’s Basement Distribution Center in Auburn as a packer before she retired.

She enjoyed watching the Boston Celtics and the Red Sox. Her greatest treasure was spending time with family.

Her family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Quaboag Rehab & Skilled Care Center for their care and kindness for Leola during her time there, and also to the Compassus Hospice Care in Auburn.

A funeral service will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Those who wish to express their sympathy are asked to plant a tree in her memory. Arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster.
