Obituary

WEBSTER – Roland A. Baird, 84, passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 17, 2025 in Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester surrounded by his family.

He leaves his beloved wife of 44 years, Carol A. (Bonnette) Baird; 7 children, Douglas K. Baird and his wife Amy of Bradenton, FL, Diana J. Fishwick and her husband Thomas of Dudley, Tammy M. Weiss of Palm Harbor, FL, Annette L. Bratica and her husband Stephen of Milford, Kristine A. Place and her husband Steve of Webster, Tracy L. Hakala and her husband John of Dudley, and Jason C. Rohr of Burlington, NC; 11 grandchildren, Kelsey Ryan, Jacob Baird, Thomas and Kyle Fishwick, Samantha Rogers, Anthony and Alexis Bratica, Christopher Place, Anthony and Katelyn Hakala, and Charles Rohr; 7 great-grandchildren, Finley, Eden, Monica, Hadley, Lillian, Lorelei and Ava. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law James Weiss in 2020 and by his brother Leon Smith.

He was born on May 18, 1940 in Gardiner, ME and raised in Westbrook, ME, the son of Walter S. and Ruth (Norcross) Baird and graduated from Westbrook High School in 1959. He has lived in Webster since 1963.

He served in the United States Air Force as an airman first class where he received medical training during his 4 years of duty.

Mr. Baird worked at the former Hubbard Regional Hospital in Webster for 40 years, retiring as the director of ancillary services in 2003. During his time there he was a medical technologist, laboratory manager and director of different departments.

The highlight of his life was his family. He was a loving, caring and dependable man who was admired by many who knew him. He enjoyed traveling, golfing and cooking.

The family would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful doctors and nurses at Saint Vincent Hospital.

Memorial calling hours will be held in the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, February 2, with a prayer service at 3:30 PM. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
