WATERBORO - Edwin “Eddie” David Mooers Jr, age 78, passed away on Friday, January 17th, 2025 after a quick and courageous battle with renal cancer.
Eddie was born in Portland, Maine on August 10th, 1946 to Edwin Sr. and Anne (Modes) Mooers. After graduating from Portland High School, Eddie enlisted in the Air Force and spent time in Newfoundland as a radio operator. He married his wife, Maxine Cross, in 1965. The two were married for 59 years and had three children: David, Lisa, and Kevin. Eddie worked as an electrician and at the dry dock at Bath Iron Works until his retirement.
Eddie was funny, bright, capable, and robust. Throughout his life, he enjoyed camping, hunting, and generally enjoying the beauty and bounty of his beloved home state. He was a tinker like his father and grandfather. In fact, when his grandfather was alive, they built a tube TV from scratch together. They got all of the parts from a junkyard. He had that TV until after he got out of the Air Force. Eddie loved his family and was the most devoted dog-owner there ever was. He had a particular fondness for his chickens and his ducks and up until his illness could be found puttering around his property in Waterboro, proudly keeping everything in working order.
Eddie was well known for always having a cigar in his mouth. His grandchildren will fondly remember his greeting of “How ya doin’ dee-ah?”.
He is particularly excited to see his sons David and Kevin again, as he has not seen them since 1986 and 2022 respectively.
He is predeceased by his parents, Ed and Annie, his sons David and Kevin, his sister-in-law Lorelei, and his great-grandson Wyatt. He is survived by his wife, Maxine, his brother Carl Mooers of Waterboro and his partner Karen, his brother Billy Mooers of Gorham, his daughter Lisa Cox and his son-in-law Allen Jr. of Buxton, his grandson Nicholas Mooers and his partner Samantha, his grandson Allen Cox III and his partner Andrea, his granddaughter Ashley Sargent and her husband Alex, his granddaughter Samantha Shultz and her husband Christopher, and his great-grandchildren Lillias, Stephen, and Morgan. He is also survived by a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ed, Fast Eddie, Winski, Junior, Pop... your family and friends will miss you dearly.
A memorial service with USAF Honors will be held on Sunday, January 26th at 2 PM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt.22) in Buxton.
