LuEllen Chambers Hale, 83, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, January 17, 2025, at the Station Exchange in Richmond Hill, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Friday, January 24, 2025, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with Pastor Bill McGee officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Friday.
Mrs. Hale was born June 15, 1941, in Waycross, Georgia, to the late Joseph H. & Lessie Mae Yawn Chambers. She was a 1959 graduate of Waycross High School and earned her Bachelors degree in Education in three years from Georgia Southern. She later earned a lifetime teaching certificate. Mrs. Hale taught middle school science and math in Ocilla but will be most remembered for teaching Home Economics at Fitzgerald High School for over 30 years. She also taught at Monitor High School. She worked as a nutritionist at Fitzgerald Nursing Home and co-owned LuBec’s Custom Draperies. She served as President of Delta Kappa Gamma and was active with the Fitzgerald Garden Club, the Georgia Retired Educators Association, and the Young Farmers Wives. Mrs. Hale was a longtime member of Central United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, served as circle leader, and was President of the UMW.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennsey & Bill McGee of Richmond Hill, a granddaughter, Mallory & Aaron Cooler of Savannah; two sisters: Virginia Smith of Lexington, South Carolina and Connie & Glenn Phillips of Valley Head, Alabama; nieces and nephews: Wade & Lisi Phillips, Andy & Linsey Phillips, Scott & Maggie Smith, Bryan & Mary Anne Smith, and Gina & Barrett Johnson; and seven great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, C. Edwin “Ed” Hale.
