WOODSTOCK, CT – Tomasz J. Palkon, 59, formerly of Webster and Charlton, died Wednesday, January 15, 2025 in Day Kimball Hospital, Putnam after being stricken ill.
He leaves 2 daughters, Maria A. Palkon and her husband Casey Cann of Belmont, MA, and Victoria A. Palkon and her partner Rebekah Costa of Northborough; his mother, Alicja (Malinowski) Palkon of Poland; his former wife, Jadwiga (Duraj) Wilbur of Dudley; and many friends.
He was born on May 12, 1965 in Bielsko Biala, Poland, son of the late Zbigniew Palkon and after high school earned an associate’s degree in telecommunication. He moved to Webster, MA in 1998 and then to Charlton, MA in 2009. He lived in Woodstock for the last year.
Mr. Palkon was currently a train engineer for the Genesee & Wyoming Railroad (formerly the Providence & Worcester Railroad). His interest in trains led him to travel to see and ride them all over the world. He also owned and operated Palkon, Inc., where he bought and sold antique cars.
Mr. Palkon was a firefighter for Webster Fire Department for 10 years. He was a member of the Waushakum Live Steamers, a founding member of the Samuel Slater Experience in Webster, and a friend to everyone who met him.
He enjoyed watching black and white Polish films and was an avid photographer.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 26, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM in the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster, with the recitation of the rosary beginning at 5:30 PM. His funeral Mass and burial will be held later in his hometown in Poland. Donations in his memory may be made to the Webster Fire Department Social Club, 55 Thompson Road, Webster, MA 01570.
