Eduardo “Eddie” Quiles-Matos, 79, of Taunton, Massachusetts, entered eternal rest after a battle with cancer on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, surrounded by family at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center.
Born on April 3, 1945, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to the late Nicolas Quiles Lugo and Margarita (Matos) Quiles. He married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Quiles (Waln), in February 1964, she predeceased him in death in 2018. He was a United States Navy Vietnam veteran and served honorably as a machinist’s mate from October 1964 to October 1966. He retired from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department as a Lt. Deputy Sheriff after serving the city of Boston for over twenty-five years.
Eddie loved to spend his time cooking in the kitchen, and he always ensured that your belly (and heart) was full! He also loved to tinker, draw, watch TV, read, spend time outside, scratch lottery tickets (often getting lucky), and spend time with family and friends. He loved sharing stories with his grandkids of his Navy and Boston days, telling tales of his time before he was “Grandpa.” He was handy, and typically, there wasn’t anything that he couldn’t fix. In his younger days, he could be found dancing to salsa, merengue, or oldies in the garage with his love, Barbara, during a family get-together.
He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years. His four children survive him; Barbara Munoz of Brighton; Dee (Noel) Rivera of Taunton; Eduardo Quiles, Jr. of Taunton; and Carlo (Lucy) Quiles of Medway. He had nine grandchildren, Nicholas Tirado-Quiles (Chrisanthy), Amanda (Matthew) Avant (Cruz), Angel (Courtney) Cruz, Carlo (Jalisse) Quiles, Jessinia Quiles (Anwar), Jocelyn Quiles, Veronica Munoz (William), Christina Munoz, and Carmen Quiles; fifteen great- grandchildren Mason Quiles, Jaxson Crowley, Mateo Cruz, Jabdiel Vazquez, Travis Fightmaster Jr., Laylah Cruz, Isabella Quiles, Hector Cruz, Elena Avant, Celine Ahmedi, Jeiraliz Vazquez, Emerie-Louise Avant, Anwar Ahmedi Jr., Carlo Quiles and Jason Tirado-Quiles.
Brother of the late Deacon Jesus M. Quiles, Deacon Francisco Quiles, Carmen, Tomasita, James, Gladys, and Isabel. Survivors include Sophie, Margarita (Daisy), Martha and Luis. An extended host of nieces and nephews also survives him.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the administrative nurses and staff at the Life Care Center of Raynham for the care they provided to him while he was a resident. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Eduardo Quiles-Matos to support cancer research and patient care at:
