Obituary

James Matthew Robinson, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home on the morning of Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Born on May 27, 1970, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, Jim was raised in Chicopee where he attended Litwin, Saint Patrick’s and Chicopee High School.

Jim began his professional journey in the fields of CAD and architecture. Over the past 15 years, he found his true calling as a pioneer in the cannabis industry. His passion for helping others led him to become a Cannabis Caregiver, offering support to medical patients seeking relief and healing. This work inspired him to open JimBuddy’s Smoke Shop in 2015. The shop will celebrate its 10th anniversary in June 2025.

In October 2022, Jim achieved his lifelong dream by opening JimBuddy’s Rec Shop. Under his leadership as President, the dispensary earned a stellar reputation for its high standards and carefully curated menu. Jim’s critical eye ensured that every product met his exacting criteria, making his store a trusted name in the community.

Jim’s success would not have been possible without the unwavering support of his devoted wife of 32 years, Lisa Robinson (Consolini), who stood by his side through every step of his journey. Lisa continues to honor Jim’s legacy by continuing to operate their family-run business with the same passion and dedication that defined him. In times of reflection or when looking to offer support, we invite you to share the story of JimBuddy’s Rec Shop & Smoke Shop with others. Your visits and shared word of mouth are a heartfelt way to honor Jim’s life and the vision he worked so hard to build.
Jim’s early years were filled with adventure, from racing BMX bikes to earning the title of track star in high school. Sports have always been a cornerstone of his life. And when it came to the New York Jets - out of respect please keep all negative thoughts about them to yourself, only true fans can understand the unique, bittersweet love-hate relationship he had with the team— a perfect reflection of his personality: deeply passionate, endlessly forgiving, and always committed.
Jim had an extraordinary gift for seeing the potential in everyone he met. His heart is always ready to offer help, no matter the circumstances. His generosity knew no bounds, and that spirit shone brightly through his recent support for Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen this past holiday season.

We hope you’ll remember Jim when you hear Cypress Hill on the radio, catch a glimpse of Star Wars on TV, or find yourself impulsively buying something off TikTok. Think of him when you take a hit off your Puffco, grind up Khalifa Kush, or snuggle with your cat. Every time you pass a Range Rover, or hear Dr. Disrespect on YouTube, know that Jim’s spirit is with you—forever a part of the things he loved and the way he touched our lives.

May Jim’s life and legacy inspire you to cherish your loved ones, reconnect with old friends, and embrace life to the fullest—whether that means enjoying a peaceful nap at home or embarking on an adventure around the world. Growing up one of Jim’s favorite things to do was going to concerts throughout the years. Some of his favorites include the Grateful Dead, Eric Clapton, and Tom Petty. Lisa and Kristie encourage you to find strength in each other and together celebrate Jim’s memory from this day forward. Let his spirit remind us all to live with love, joy, and gratitude.

Jim leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory forever. He is survived by his mother, Patricia Robinson of South Hadley; his cherished daughter and “peanut,” Kristie Robinson, and her partner Jeff LaZazzera of Agawam; two sisters, Christine Gloster and her husband Jeff of Chicopee, and Susan Valadas and her husband Daniel of Ludlow; two brothers, Mike Robinson of Chicopee and Steve Robinson of Northampton; and his brother-in-law Steve Consolini and wife Janet of South Carolina.

Uncle “Jimbuddy” also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored him: Marie Robinson, his favorite niece, and her son Michael; John Robinson and his daughter Adaline; Joseph Benoit and his son Mason; Isabella, Daniel, Amelia, and Julia Valadas; Samanta Consolini, and her daughters Skylar and Thea; Victoria and Dante Consolini; as well as Corey Koske and Dylan Arnhold—whom Jim lovingly referred to as “the sons he never had.” He will also be deeply missed by Tom Hobson and the entire staff at JimBuddy’s stores who were like family to him. Jim shared close bonds with lifelong friends Tim Flynn, Ron Desellier, and Brian Peak. His warmth, humor, and generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Welcoming Jim into the Gates of Heaven are his father Eugene “Poppy” Robinson, father-in-law Joseph “Papa Joe” Consolini, sister-in-law Ann Robinson, and nephew Adam Benoit.
Jim Robinson will be remembered for his entrepreneurial spirit, dedication to his family and community, and the joy he brought into the lives of those around him. May his memory continue to inspire all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, January 20th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Grise Funeral Home located at 280 Springfield Street in Chicopee, MA, 01013. Friends, family members, customers, and community members are invited to come together to honor Jim's remarkable life.
