It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Francis Geary, aged 64, of Quincy, who died peacefully on January 12, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.
Michael F. Geary was a longtime resident of Quincy but was born in Galway, Ireland, on September 29, 1960, and made a new life for himself when he immigrated to the United States in 1984. He spent his years in America working tirelessly and proudly as a member of the Laborers' Union, Local 223, where he earned the respect of his colleagues and contributed to the growth of countless projects throughout the city of Boston and beyond.
A hardworking and selfless man, Michael F. Geary was known for his dedication to providing for his family and his unwavering commitment to the values of integrity, loyalty, and perseverance. He was a man who never shied away from a challenge, whether it was in the tough work of construction or in his personal battles. His work ethic and determination made him an invaluable asset to his union for over 38 years and to those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Michael F. Geary was a proud Irishman, and though he left his homeland behind, he carried its spirit and traditions with him throughout his life. His love for his family, his faith, and his community remained at the center of everything he did. He was a cherished partner, father, brother, uncle, and friend, known for his warmth, kindness, and quick wit.
He is predeceased by his loving father and mother John Geary and Bridget (Canavan) Geary and his sister Bridie Martina Geary all of Galway, Ireland; and wife Catherine (Walsh) Geary of Quincy. He is survived by his beloved partner, Judy Mulkerrin and their children, Michael and Ava Geary of Quincy, and stepdaughters Catherine (Vincent) Albanese of Quincy and Patricia (Joseph) Pratt of North Hudson, NY; his siblings Sean (Theresa) Geary, Maureen (Máirtin) Thornton, Lizzie (Michael) Folan, Noreen Lydon, Marcus Geary and Noel Geary all of County Galway, Ireland; and numerous nieces and nephews both in America and Ireland as well extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A wake will be held in his honor at Casper Funeral Home in South Boston on Sunday, January 19, 2025 from 2 PM to 5 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather to share stories, celebrate his life, and offer their condolences. A funeral Mass will be held in Carna, County Galway, Ireland.. Michael F. Geary will be laid to rest in Mynish Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who supported Michael F. Geary throughout his illness, especially in his final days. His strength and resilience, even in the face of adversity, remain an inspiration to all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Norwell VNA Hospice Care in his memory.
