Obituary

Eunice Barbara (Still) O'Neil, lovingly known as Barbara, a resident of Haverhill, formerly of Andover, and beloved wife of the late William Joseph O'Neil, passed away at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen on Saturday afternoon, January 11, 2025. She was 95 years old.

Born in Lawrence on June 22, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Daisy (Chipman) Still. After graduating from Lawrence High in 1947, she and Bill married and together raised their 11 children in Andover. Later in life, she became an LPN, an accomplishment she was incredibly proud of. Barbara cherished her childhood memories of summers in Nova Scotia with family and returned often for visits. She loved vacationing with her family in Maine and enjoyed her many dogs. In her retirement, Barbara could often be found knitting blankets and booties for infants at local hospitals or sending cards and gifts to sick children around the country to make them smile. She made her family laugh daily with her stories and anecdotes, which were legendary. Her family will dearly miss her, and her memory will always be a blessing.

Eunice is survived by her children and their spouses: Barbara and Michael Kennedy of Haverhill, Beverly and Raymond 'Skip' Schmidt of Stoughton, Stephen O'Neil of Lawrence, Mary Beth O'Neil of Haverhill, Christine Harding of Haverhill, David O’Neil, Joseph O’Neil and Kelli Laffin of Londonderry, NH, William O'Neil of Manchester, NH, Daniel and Paulette O'Neil of Hampstead, NH, and her son-in-law Michael Leone of Framingham. Barbara will be missed by her 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, her cousin Elsie Irvine of Kentville, Nova Scotia, Canada, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two children, Carolyn Leone and James O'Neil, her granddaughter Amy, great-granddaughter Chelsea, and siblings Charles Still and Anna Mooradian.

Her funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover, on Friday, January 17th at 10:30AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Calling hours will be held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover, on Thursday, January 16th, from 4:00-8:00 PM. Interment will be held in the St. Augustine Cemetery in Andover.

Due to Barbara’s love of dogs and bringing joy to sick children, her family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the Mass General for Children Pet Therapy program. Gifts can be made at massgeneral.org or sent to the MGH Development Office, 125 Nashua Street, Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114.
