It is with heavy hearts that the family of Evelyn (Hassan) Nessralla inform you of her passing on January 10, 2025 surrounded by her daughters who dearly loved her.
Evelyn was born in Lebanon to her U.S. parents who brought her, their love of their faith and of family to Brockton. With her beautiful smile and electric blue eyes, Evelyn was imbued with an uncommon grace and fun-loving spirit that drew people to her.
Evelyn was a talented artist who amazed us with beautiful oil paintings depicting her daughters and grandchildren, award-winning knit afghans and incredible culinary and baking skills. A master of Lebanese cuisine and hospitality, she was known for the extensive and memorable holiday celebrations that she hosted for family and friends with her unparalleled attention to detail.
Always truly humble, Evelyn focused on others-- volunteering in the ladies’ sodality at St. Theresa’s Maronite Church, knitting scarves, sweaters and hats to fulfill children’s Christmas wish lists, and volunteering at local nursing homes. You were fortunate if you visited her at home because you did not leave hungry, without leftovers or her trademark warm embrace. She had the extraordinary talent to make others feel better, helping them in any way she could, and most importantly making them feel seen and heard.
She was not an avid collector of things but of her friendships. She always looked forward to her evenings with her “club” girls some of whom were her friends since the age of 5, and to summers on Cape Cod where friends she met more than 40 years ago became her extended family.
Known as being fiercely intelligent, Evelyn grew up in Brockton, graduated from Brockton High School and later business school and worked in the business accounts department at the Edison Company. After raising her children, she joined her husband Joseph operating their real estate business, working side-by-side until his passing. Her true calling was not finance or real estate but was being a grandmother to her smart, funny, kind and loving grandchildren who were the most important people in the world to her.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Joseph Nessralla, her brother-in-law Bill Street, her brother Frederick Hassan and his wife Rose. She is survived by her daughters Laurie-Ann Nessralla (Stephen Batter) and Jo-Ann Nessralla, her devoted sister Lorri Hassan-Street, her grandchildren Ally Batter and Stephen Batter, and her sister-in-law Theresa Nessralla.
Mere words are not enough to express her family’s profound gratitude to her caregivers, Nesheel Mowatt and Jeanine Donovan, who loved and provided her with the most extraordinary care late in her life.
A visiting hour will be held at 11:30AM on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at St. Theresa’s Maronite Church, 343 North Main Street, Brockton, MA 02301 followed by the Funeral Liturgy at 12:30PM. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Evelyn’s memory to St. Theresa’s Maronite Church, P.O. Box 2567, Brockton, MA 02305.
