Joseph F. “Joe” Johnson, Sr., 89, of Tifton passed away Saturday, January 11, 2025, at his residence. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mr. Johnson at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. The Rev. Joseph L. Crumley will officiate.
Justin Sheppard, Rob Buckley, Ross Buckley, Ryan Buckley, Lon Barfield, Buck Buckley, Brayden Barfield and Landon Sheppard will serve as pallbearers.
Born December 14, 1935, in Omega, Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Julian Warren Johnson and Lucille Marchant Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette Brinson Johnson; one brothers, Charles Johnson; and one sister, Laverne Johnson. He graduated from Omega High School and attended Norman Park College. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. After his military service, he started working at the Georgia Department of Transportation from where he retired. After retirement, he spent many years striping and seal-coating parking lots for various businesses, and this was something he thoroughly enjoyed. He was an avid Georgia Tech football fan and a seasonal ticket holder. He loved going to Steinhatchee fishing with his grandchildren. He loved his grandkids and his great-grandkids, and his cat, Lucy.
Mr. Johnson is survived by one son, Joseph F. “Joey” Johnson, Jr. of Tifton; two daughters, Kim Johnson and Venisha Buckley, both of Tifton; five grandchildren and their spouses, Justin Sheppard (Heather Baker), Heather and Lon Barfield, Rob and Danielle Buckley, Ross Buckley and Ryan and Abby Buckley; and five great-grandchildren, Buck Buckley, Brayden Barfield, Landon Sheppard, Riley Buckley and Hattie Buckley.
