Robert S. Eddleston, Sr., 84

Dateline: Norton, MA

Robert S. Eddleston, Sr., age 84, a lifelong resident of the Chartley section of Norton, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Briarcliffe Cottage in Johnston, RI. He was the beloved husband of the late Janice R. (Keene) Eddleston to whom he was wed on July 9, 1960 and who died on April 13, 2021.

Born in Attleboro, MA on April 15, 1940, he was a loving son of the late Robert N. and Ruby (Scott) Eddleston. He was the dear brother of the late Bette (Eddleston) Precourt, who is survived by her husband Buddy Precourt of Norton.

Bob is survived by his devoted children: Pamela A. Eddleston and her longtime companion Thomas Whittingham of Attleboro and Robert S. Eddleston, Jr. and his companion Kathie St. Pierre of Norton. He was the beloved brother-in-law of A. Thomas Keene and his wife Sharon of Taunton and the late Retired Norton Police Chief Benton W. Keene, Jr. and his late wife Peggy, and the late Susan Wilson. He is also survived by his grandchildren Robert Eddleston III and his wife Samantha, Angela Eddleston and her fiancé Justin Gaudreau, Amie Walker and her husband Eric, and Daniel Allard and his wife Michelle, and many others who called him “Grandpa”; his great grandchildren Jacob and Owen Eddleston, Waylen Gaudreau, Brayden and Makenna Walker, and Austin Denzer and his wife Courtney; and his great-great grandchildren, as well as many-many loving nieces and nephews.

Bob’s grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren were the essence of his life and his favorite times were those spent at the family’s Cape House in Falmouth, where he especially enjoyed entertaining with family and friends, sailing and spending time at the beach.

Bob grew up in Norton, was a 1958 graduate of Norton High School and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve. He began his career as a volunteer firefighter with the Norton Fire Department. Later in December of 1963 he was appointed Deputy Fire Chief of the Norton Fire Department. In 1971 he was also elected President of the Norton Permanent Fire Fighters Association. After dedicating 35 years to the Norton Fire Department, Bob later retired from the Norton Fire Department in January 1991. In addition, Bob also served on the Board of Directors of Mansfield Cooperative Bank for many years. Bob always had a story or joke to tell and kept coworkers, family and friends entertained and they were waiting to hear the next one.

In addition to his firefighter career, Bob also became the proud owner and operator of Wetherell Paint Store of Norton which was purchased from his mentor the late Harold Wetherell in 1970. Bob took great pride in his business and made sure that every customer was satisfied with their purchase. Wetherell Paint Company served the community for 38 years under Bob before closing their doors on June 8, 2008.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, January 16th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.

His funeral service, with firefighter’s honors, will be held on Friday, January 17th at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be held privately at a later date at the Norton Center Cemetery in Norton.

In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Dementia Society of America at Memorials | Dementia Society of America.
