Richard Paul Mahoney, age 82, of Brockton, MA and Middletown, RI, passed away suddenly on January 2, 2025, after a courageous battle with lung disease.
He was born in Somerville, July 12, 1942, to the late Edwin and Gertrude (Ratkofsky) Mahoney. Richard leaves his loving and devoted wife of 39 years, Elda C. (Cappuccio) Mahoney; his brother Donald (Priscilla) of Natick; sisters-in-law Mary L. Hagstrom, Nancy Hurley (Michael) and Joan Cappuccio; his nephews Michael, Kevin and Brian Mahoney and Kurt Hagstrom; his nieces Kathleen James and Lily Cappuccio and nine grand nieces and nephews. He also leaves his pet macaw Paco and parrot Sam.
Richard graduated from St. Clement High School in Somerville, Boston State College and received his master’s degree from Bridgewater State University. He retired from Raytheon in Quincy as a production control engineer. He was a member of the Army National Guard.
Known for his caring and generous spirit, Richard enjoyed life to its fullest. He was always busy planning his next world adventure or next hobby acquisition. Throughout his life, Richard collected militaria.
He was a member of MAAC, NCCA, Bay Colony, and Boston Token Kai Society. Richard was also a member of the Newport Elks 104, a horologist, amateur boxer, sports enthusiast and patriot.
Family and friends are invited to attend his Visiting Hours at Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton on Wednesday, January 15 from 3-7pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:30am, for a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, at 10:30am. Burial will be held in the springtime at Rural Glen Cemetery in Hubbardston, MA.
