Nancy (Howard) Upchurch
February 15, 1930-January 8, 2025

Nancy Howard Upchurch, 94, of Anderson passed away at her residence on January 8, 2025 following a sudden illness.

She was born on February 15, 1930 in Anderson, IN to the late Stewart and Christina (Caskey) Howard. She graduated from Anderson High School in the class of 1948. Following graduation from high school she went on to earn both her Bachelor and Master’s Degree from Ball State University in Education.

She retired from Anderson Community Schools on June 30, 1991 after 25 years as an elementary school teacher working at both Lindbergh and Southview Elementary Schools.

She was a member of the Anderson First United Methodist Church where she was very involved especially with the church library and their book club. She was an avid reader and read two books or more weekly. She was a member of the Isabel Society. She played cards five days a week and belonged to several bridge clubs. She was an avid bird watcher and had logged birds from all six continents. She was active in the Indiana bird count organization. She was an extensive traveler where she visited all 50 states, along with all Canadian provinces, six continents, and hundreds of countries.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy York of Bloomington; a step-daughter, Nancy Novoa of Florida; a grandson, David (Sheri) York; two step-grandchildren, Elio R. Nova and Nancylee Crespo; two great-grandchildren, Paige and Pierce York; and several step great-grandchildren; special friends, Bill and Mary Brown of Anderson; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew “Pierce” Upchurch Jr.; a brother, Norman Howard and a son-in-law, David York.

Funeral service will be at 1:00pm on Monday, January 13, 2025 at Anderson First United Methodist Church with Rev. Corinne Boruff officiating. The burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00am-1:00pm at the church on Monday.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Anderson First United Methodist Church Library.
