Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - Barbara B. (Baldyga) Aberdale, 82, a longtime resident of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Saturday, January 4, 2025. She passed into Eternal Life at the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Great Barrington on September 28, 1942, a beloved daughter of the late Alexander and Bronislawa M. (Zera) Baldyga, She was raised in Housatonic and graduated from Searles High School in Great Barrington. She furthered her education and graduated from Bishop Memorial School of Nursing at the former Pittsfield General Hospital where she began her career as a Registered Nurse. She came to Springfield in the late 1960's and began working at Mercy Hospital in Springfield where she taught classes and became a Certified Nurse Anesthetist. During her leisure time, Barbara enjoyed gardening, bowling, ceramics, sewing, and hosting beautiful parties for her family. Her favorite time was with her grandsons and enjoying her vacations on Cape Cod. Barbara and her late husband, Terry, enjoyed many cruises together. Most of all, she loved her family and her many friends. She was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church where she was a volunteer at the former Our Lady of Hope School. She was currently a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Terry A. Aberdale who was Called Home on August 29, 2019. They were married on August 29, 1970 at the former Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Springfield and were blessed with 49 years of happiness together. She leaves her two loving and devoted daughters, Annette D. Kendra and her husband, Richard, of Chicopee and Andrea B. Aberdale-Smith and her husband, John Smith, of Springfield; her four cherished grandsons, Collin Kendra, Nicholas Kendra, Alex Aberdale and Zachary Smith; her special cousin who she loved, Sophie Degnan of East Aurora, NY; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. Her family would like to thank all her caregivers who were so caring to Barbara who provided so much comfort to her over the past years. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning January 11, 2025 beginning at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107(funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, January 10, 2025 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church Renovation Fund, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
