Obituary

Arthur "Art" Klamka
October 19, 1940 - January 1, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arthur “Art” Klamka, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who died on January 1, 2025 at Northern Westchester Hospital. He was 84 years old.

Art was born and grew up in Ossining NY, eventually moving and spending most of his adult life in North Salem, NY. A graduate of Ossining High School (1958) and Pace College (1967) with a degree in business, Art served honorably in the Army National Guard for six years. He dedicated his life to both his community and his family. For over 6 decades, he was an active volunteer fireman with three local fire companies, serving in Ossining, Croton Falls, and Golden’s Bridge. He was often the first on the scene, driving the fire truck and answering the call to help his friends and neighbors. He also officiated as the Jewish chaplain for the Ossining fire department for many years. His contributions to the community will be remembered for generations to come.

Art’s professional career was equally impressive. He founded the Yorktown Glass Company, a successful business, where he worked tirelessly until his retirement in 1995. Following his “retirement” he spent 25 years in his next career, delivering for Mt. Kisco Truck and Auto Parts. He loved making people feel at ease by often conversing in their native languages. He especially loved speaking Spanish with customers. Art loved his work, feeling a sense of pride and dedication to a job well done.

He was known for his generous heart, always willing to lend a hand, whether in service to his community, volunteering, or helping family and friends. Art was a “fix-it” man and a master cook. His wife lovingly called him “Chef-Boy Artie,” as he had a special ability to prepare delicious meals, often relying on instinct rather than recipes.

In his free time, Art enjoyed fishing and bowling. He also took great satisfaction in his hobby of chopping, splitting, and stacking firewood. In the middle of winter, he loved settling in and sitting by the cozy fire that he made.

He was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Judith Klamka, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. Art was the proud father of three children, Jeffrey (Rebecca), Robert (Ruba), and Karen (Hank). He was also beloved by his six grandchildren: Jasper (Sam), Ben, Alexa, Josh, Mathias, and Kyle, as well as his great-granddaughter, Hazel. He was preceded in death by his sister Arlene Meyer and his parents, Abraham and Gussie Klamka.

Art’s legacy is one of selflessness, kindness, and a fierce devotion to those he loved. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Donations in his memory can be made to: Temple Shaaray Tefila of Bedford, the Ossining Fire Department, and the Croton Falls Fire Department.
