Obituary

COX, Marjorie (Fraser), a life-long resident of South Medford, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, age 98. Beloved wife of the late Frederick R. Cox Sr. Loving mother of Frederick R. and his wife Nanci Cox of Hudson Falls, NY, Bruce S. and his wife Mary Anne Cox of Harrison, ME, Wendy L. Cox of Medford, Joseph R. and his wife Karen Cox of Stoneham, Carla P. Cox of Carrollton, TX and Laura H. Cox-Gazza and her husband Richard Gazza of Lexington. Loving sister of the late Gilbert Fraser of Burlington, VT. Cherished grandmother of Jonathan, the late Adam, Matthew, Patrick, Daniel, Sarah, Amanda, Ashley, Dalton, Nathan, Nicholas, Jake, and Ruby. Adored great-grandmother of eighteen. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Before marriage and starting to raise children Margie worked as a photo colorist and art supplies associate. Hearing of a need for foster parents early in their marriage, Fred and Margie jumped in and fostered numerous children over the next 20 years.

Once her children were all of school age Margie began teaching at Oakland Park Children’s Center in Medford, MA. Earning her license she took on the role of head teacher for several years. Retiring from Oakland Park, Margie went on to work as an assistant teacher at the Agassiz Preschool in Cambridge, MA. She then took on her favorite role as full-time caregiver to several grandchildren.

Margie was a multi-talented artist. She enjoyed traveling and the adventure of seeing new places along the way. She was an avid reader. Nonfiction books where she could learn about other countries and cultures were her favorites. An animal and nature lover, Margie always had a pet, loved to spend hours working in her gardens, and enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels play in her backyard.

Margie loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in person or by phone. Always wanting to know what was going on in their lives. She would ask many questions and share stories of her past experiences and adventures with them all. Margie especially loved doing craft projects with her grandchildren.

A family burial service will be held Saturday, January 11th at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, W. Peabody. Family and friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life January 11th at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church of Medford, 29 Oakland Street, Medford, MA. In lieu of flowers Margie would have greatly preferred donations be made in her memory to Wonderfund MA which supports children in foster care or Kitty Connection Incorporated (where she adopted her beloved Bungee), PO Box 559, Medford MA 02155.
