BRISTOL ---- John E. Carrigan, Jr., 90 of Bristol, NH, and formerly of West Stewartstown, NH, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side, on Monday, December 30, 2024.
Born in Rochester, NH, on November 17, 1934, John was the son of Blanche and John E. Carrigan, Sr. and husband of Sylvia, his wife of nearly 60 years, who predeceased him in 2021.
John graduated from Spaulding High School, where he was a star athlete. As a young man, John served in the US Army and Army Reserve and was a graduate of Plymouth State College. He married Sylvia Robie in 1961 and shortly after, they moved back to his hometown of Rochester, NH, where he taught school and coached in Rochester City Schools for several years, before becoming a federal employee. John served the US Custom Service with distinction for 28 years, with many years as Port Director of Norton, VT Area Ports before retiring in 1995.
An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping and snowmobiling. In retirement, John and his wife Sylvia enjoyed adventures traveling to Prince Edward Island, Alaska, England and the American and Canadian West. John also served on the Parish Council at St. Brendan’s Church in Colebrook, NH, and as a poll worker in Stewartstown, NH.
John is survived by his children, Deborah (Robert) McGuire, of Scotia, NY, John (April) Carrigan, of Bristol, NH, and Patricia (Michel) Pariseau, of Sheldon, VT; sister, Sylvia (George) Findell, of Rochester, NH; grandchildren, Adam (Kelly) McGuire, Jeffrey McGuire, Nichole (David Demers) Carrigan, Catherine (Brian) Hanuschak, Corey (Laura) Pariseau, Dustin (Nichola) Dow, and Em (Noah Jones-Drayton) Pariseau; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and loving wife, John is predeceased by his grandson, Ryan Dow.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Grace Church, 2 West Shore Road, Bristol, NH.
