John Arthur Kantner
July 19, 1939 – January 1, 2025
John Arthur Kantner, 85, of Noblesville passed away on January 1, 2025 at Bickford of Carmel following an extended illness.
He was born on July 19, 1939 in Tennessee to the late Arthur and Margaret (Cox) Kantner. He graduated from Wendell Willkie High School in Elwood where he lettered in both football and track. He was on two conference championship football teams.
He served in the US Army and trained in artillery and fire control at both Fort Knox and Fort Sill.
He was a Tool and Die Maker at Delco Remy for 38 years and retired in 1998. He was a member of UAW 662.
He loved watching football and officiated high school football with the IHSAA for more than 30 years and for 10 years he officiated with two of his sons, John and Robert. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge. He has traveled to every state in the United States but North Dakota. He enjoyed wintering in Gulf Shores, AL and the Yucatan of Mexico.
He is survived by his two children, Anna (Paul) Allison of Anderson and Frank Kantner of Fishers; his girlfriend, Mary Phillips of Middletown; two daughters-in-law, Christi Kantner of Miami, FL and Shelley Kantner of Noblesville; five grandchildren, Brandi Tranbarger, Andrew (Dominque) Kantner, Brian (fiancée’, Anna) Kantner, Marissa (fiancé’, Katie) Kantner, and Nicholas Kantner; two great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Carolyn Krishak of Florida; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra (Krishak) Kantner on January 2015; his two sons, John Kantner Jr. and Robert Kantner; a daughter at birth, Lora Kantner; four siblings, Danny Kantner, Babe Davis, Mike Kantner, and Penny Hunt.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Deacon Chris Bock officiating. Burial will follow at Bronnenberg Cemetery in Chesterfield.
Visitation will be from 9:30am – 12:00 noon on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions will be given to The Alzheimer’s Association.
