Worcester – Colonel (Ret.) Edward R. Pedersen, 92, of Worcester, MA and formerly of Springfield, MA passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, December 30, 2024, in the Saint Francis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Edward was married for 60 years to his loving wife, Barbara (Fisher) Pedersen who passed away on March 7, 2019. He is survived by his two sons, Colonel (Ret.) Robert C. Pedersen M.D. and his wife, Colonel (Ret.) Anita M. Pedersen M.D. of Kailua, HI and Scott C. Pedersen and his wife, Traci W. Pedersen of Lyndeborough, NH; a daughter, Kirsten P. Dillaire and her husband, Bruce W. Dillaire of Worcester; his 2 sisters, Marie DeMaio and Joan Smith; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
Ed Pedersen was born in New Haven, CT, son of the late Sophus and Mary (Goedtel) Pedersen and is predeceased by a sister, Gertrude Pedersen. Ed attended and graduated from Quinnipiac University with a bachelor’s degree. While at Quinnipiac, Ed served as the editor of the Quinnipiac College Chronicle which ran his monthly column “The Moose Knows”. Ed later continued his education attaining a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Bridgeport.
Mr. Pedersen proudly served his country in the National Guard, then continued his service in the United States Army where he attained the rank of Colonel, retiring after a combined 31 years of service. He served during the Korean War and in the Vietnam War earning two bronze stars. Upon being honorably discharged from the military, Ed became the Executive Vice President of the Homebuilder’s Association of Greater Springfield, Inc. for 15 years where he was given the honor of having a building and an award named after him.
Mr. Pedersen loved telling jokes, watching movies, and listening to his favorite music, often breaking into song and dance. He enjoyed watching both tennis and golf, working in his yard and on his cars, and he absolutely loved getting a bargain. However, Ed was the happiest when he was able to spend time with his family and friends.
A funeral service with military honors will be held on Friday, January 10 at 11AM in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery 111 Glenallen Street Winchendon, MA. Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Pedersen may be made to either the St, Francis Home “Patient Activity Fund” 101 Plantation St. Worcester, MA 01604 or to the Wounded Warrior Project P.O.
