Obituary

Alberta Louise (Jope) Twiss
03-25-1928 to 12-28-2024

Alberta Louise (Jope) Twiss passed, at peace, in her sleep at 96 years old. She was born and grew up in Randolph, Massachusetts, lived in Maine and finally settled with her family in Abington and then Brockton for the last 64 years. She was predeceased by her husband William Francis Twiss, Sr. and granddaughter Leah (Twiss) Harrington. She leaves behind her sons William Twiss, Jr., Frank Twiss, Sr. and his wife Beth, Frederick Twiss and his wife Cheryl, Jon Twiss, and her daughter Linda Twiss Gioscia and her husband Mike. She is survived by grandchildren, Frank Twiss, Jr, Tim Twiss, Eric Twiss, Suzy Scott, Jackie Twiss, Connor Twiss Portillo, Gianna Gioscia, and Ethan Gioscia; and her great grandchildren, Allyson Twiss, Damien Twiss, Mikahla Twiss, Rex Twiss, Ainsley Twiss, Leah Twiss, Waylon Twiss, Drew Scott, Zach Scott, Chelsi Harrington, Lilly Portillo, Leo Portillo.

Alberta worked on the farm as a teenager, then was a window dresser at Filene’s in Boston before meeting her husband William right after World War II. She then became a wife and a stay at home Mom. She raised four boys and a girl, so she basically never got a day off for most of her life. Her family was everything and her whoopie pies and crazy cake were favorite treats. She battled and won against breast cancer 30 years ago. She was an avid walker, gardener, bird watcher, knitter, crossword puzzler, baby sitter, camper, cat cuddler, Super Mario player and she won almost every game of scrabble! Family vacations were often spent on the boat at the Sand spit on the Cape. She got to spend her last couple of years in assisted living at Heights Crossing in Brockton, where she finally could stop working and, as she said, “be a lady of leisure”.

Alberta told her family in her last days that she felt lucky. She had a great life and she loved and was proud of all of her family. She will be dearly missed by all.

Visitation will be held at the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street, (Rte 123), Brockton on Thursday January 9, 2025 from 9-10am.
