WEBSTER – Cecelia B. “Ceal” Provost, 63, of Golden Heights, died Saturday, August 5, in Hubbard Regional Hospital.
She leaves 6 siblings, M. Blanche Holmberg and her husband Jack of Auburn, George Provost, Jr., of Southbridge, Sister Janet B. Provost, with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, of Worcester, Mary E. Moore and her husband James of Douglas, Joseph E. Provost and his wife Ann of Plymouth, and Margaret M. Hage and her husband Jerry of Georgetown, TX; nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and great grandnieces and great grandnephews; and Charlene Swift, a very special person to Ceal.
She was born and raised in Webster, a daughter of George and Bernadette E. (Fontaine) Provost. She graduated from Saint Louis High School in 1960, where she served as a secretary for the Catholic Youth Council, and from the Burbank School of Nursing in Fitchburg.
Miss Provost was a licensed practical nurse first at the Devereaux School in Rutland, then at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge, and then for 23 years at the Worcester VNA, retiring in 1988 due to disability. In her retirement, she volunteered as a receptionist/secretary at Saint Louis Rectory until the time of her death.
She was a communicant of Saint Louis Church, where she was a lector, Christian Doctrine teacher, and active in church festivals. She was a member of the Saint Louis League of Catholic Women and the Saint Louis High School Alumni Association. She enjoyed reading, drama, singing and visiting the ocean. She also excelled at cooking, especially baking. Most of all, she cherished her family. She was loved dearly by her family and many friends and will be greatly missed.
The funeral will be held Thursday, August 10, from the Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake St. After cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. George’s Cemetery, Southbridge. Calling hours are from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Wednesday, August 9, in the funeral home.
