In Loving Memory of Marie Abdou
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marie Abdou (Harb), aged 39, on December 27, 2024. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished daughter, sister, and a dear friend to many.
Marie was preceded in death by her father, Massoud Harb (2019). She is survived by her husband, Alexander Abdou; their two beloved children, Julien, 7 and Vivienne, 5; her mother, Laudy Harb; her sister, Shantale Greenson (married to Adam Greenson and their children Layla, 5 and Logan, 3); her brother, Joseph Harb; and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends whose lives she touched with her kindness and warmth.
Growing up in Roslindale, Marie attended Holy Name Parish School, graduated from Boston Latin School in 2003, and studied economics at UMass Amherst, graduating in 2007. During these formative years, she built lifelong friendships and a community of people who admired her vibrant, kindhearted spirit. It was also there that she met Alex, her husband and soulmate, beginning a love story that spanned decades.
Marie had an accomplished professional career at National Grid, where she was known for her work ethic and took deep pride in her contributions. Her dedication and expertise were widely respected. In addition to her role at National Grid, Marie served on the Board of Directors at AESP, where she contributed to advancing energy efficiency initiatives, a cause close to her heart.
Personally, Marie developed a passion for reading, writing, and traveling. Whether hiking the Inca trail, ziplining in the rainforest of Costa Rica, or cooking food in Thailand, Marie always looked to immerse herself in various cultures and local customs. She believed that the best way to understand the world was to experience it firsthand, connecting with people and traditions that expanded her perspective.
Marie was a dedicated and nurturing mother who found immense joy in teaching her children about the world. She imparted her wisdom with patience and love, instilling in Julien and Vivienne the values of kindness, curiosity, and resilience. Her children will carry her lessons and love in their hearts as they grow, embodying the remarkable person she was.
Visitation will be held at Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St. West Roxbury, on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 4-8pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday January 4, 2025 at 11am. Private interment will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Jimmy Fund in her honor.
Though our hearts ache, we take solace in the beautiful memories she left behind and the lasting impact she made on all who knew her.
Marie will forever be missed but never forgotten.
