Obituary

SHREWSBURY___Genevieve M. (Lietuvninkas) Naras, 85, of Shrewsbury passed away on Christmas day, December 25, 2024. Her husband of 59 years, Bruno J. Naras died in 2021.

Genevieve is survived by two sons, Thomas B. Naras and Edmund J. Naras both of Shrewsbury; five grandchildren, Karina, Julia, Edmund, Joseph and Sophia, a sister, Dana Hayes of Westborough and nieces and nephews. Genevieve was born in Vilkaviskis, Lithuania a daughter of the late Klemensas and Anastazija (Bruozis) Lietuvninkas. Having been displaced in World War II her parents brought their young family to Worcester in 1949, and she has lived in the area ever since.

A loving wife and mother, Genevieve was an exemplary "Mociute" to her five grandchildren. She and Bruno lived in the same town as their sons' families, and were always a big part of their grandchildren's lives.

Mrs. Naras was active in the Lithuanian community and was a member of Maironis Park (the Lithuanian Charitable Society). Although not a member of the Lithuanian Scouts herself, she could always be found pitching in to help at their events. She was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, Shrewsbury, the former St. Casimir Parish, Worcester and before that had been a member of Our Lady of Vilna Church, Worcester.

The family would like to acknowledge the efforts of all those who helped Genevieve maintain some degree of independence after her mobility became limited, particularly the remarkable hard work, loyalty and dedication of Violeta Perez.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 with a Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Mary Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
