Obituary

Mary Govan
June 4, 1925-December 26, 2024

After a brief illness, on December 26, 2024, Mary Govan moved from the land of the dying to the home of the living where she was welcomed by her Eddie and a host of family and friends who had been waiting to greet her. It was a fond reunion!

Mary was born June 4, 1925, to Pastor Jacob (Aukje) DeGroot in the Northern Province of the Netherlands called Friesland. She and her family moved South and lived an idyllic life in Limburg province (Holland) until the Nazis invaded in May, 1940, subjugating and terrorizing the Dutch until the fall of 1944 when the Netherlands was liberated by the Americans and the British (including a British soldier camped near Mary's home. That soldier was named Edmund Govan).
After the war, Edmund returned, as he had promised to do, and the couple married in 1945. The family lived in Holland until 1957, when they immigrated to the USA, living first in Chicago, and later Indianapolis and Anderson.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund, her parents and her siblings. After Edmund's death, Mary lived at Crown Pointe Senior Living in Anderson, Indiana and later at Westminster Village North in Lawrence, Indiana where the staff gave her loving attention and care until her death.

Mary is survived by her three daughters and their husbands: Ann and Marv Rockhill of Noblesville, Emily and Dennis Carroll of Fortville and Ruth and Jeff Pinyot of Fishers. She was the proud grandmother of Edmund (Vicki) Rockhill, Melissa Rockhill, David (Stephenie) Carroll, Lori (Mike) Chandler, Elizabeth Jones, Diana Brown, Christopher Pinyot, Caroline Pinyot, Jonathan Pinyot and Justin Pinyot along with ten great-grandchildren.

Mary was grateful for the ministry of Chesterfield Church of God, where she could be found each Sunday when she was able.

A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Dr. Jerry Grubbs officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10-11A.M. on Thursday, January 9, 2025
