Porter, Maine-Barry Albert LaVigne, 79, passed away peacefully on December 16th, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
Barry was born on September 4th, 1945. After graduation from Portsmouth NH High School in 1961, he went on to proudly serve in the 1st Cavalry Division of the U.S. Army as a Helicopter Door Gunner in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967.
Following his military service Barry embarked on a career as a truck driver and was a dedicated member of the Teamsters.
His love for adventure extended into his personal life where he enjoyed motorcycle riding, taking boat rides and hunting. He was especially passionate about riding his motorcycle with the Blue Knights and the Combat Vets sharing countless rides and memories with friends and relatives.
Barry was a devoted family man survived by the love of his life Colleen LaVigne, a daughter Christeen Fossum and husband Lars, their children Kristopher and Erik. Also a son Barry LaVigne and his wife Stephanie, their children Lindsay, Jocelyn, Rodrigo, Alex and his wife Eileen. He is also survived by siblings Carol Main and her husband Alan, Bonnie Hines and husband Bill.
His life was enriched by many nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren and a wide circle of friends. Barry was preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Julia LaVigne, his siblings Ella Aiken, Fred LaVigne, Pat Reed, and Rodney LaVigne
A military service will be held to honor Barry's life on January 9th at 12:00 p.m. at the Veterans cemetery 83 Stanley Road, Springvale Maine. Followed by a celebration of life at the American Legion Hall 656 Main St. Springvale Maine. Barry's life was marked by his love for his family, his service to his country and his passion for riding his Goldwing.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
