FABYAN, CT – Helen “Penna” Thomas, 96, died Saturday, December 21, 2024 in Matulaitis Nursing Home, Putnam after an illness.
She leaves many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and dear friends Dianne Lenky, Ann Zayas and Susan Hill. She was preceded in death by her brothers, George and Charles Thomas and by her sisters Esther Parent, Pauline Angelo and Olga Petluch. She also leaves her collie Scott, a loyal and constant companion.
She was born at home in Fabyan on April 12, 1928, a daughter of Joseph and Christina (Chisto) Thomas and was a lifelong resident.
Helen worked as a dresser at her family’s George Thomas & Sons woolen mill, retiring in her mid-seventies.
She was a member of Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Webster, MA. She enjoyed gardening and going to the beach. A day was not complete without several cups of coffee. She liked spending time with family and friends.
A graveside service will be held Monday, December 30 at 11:00 AM in Mount Zion Cemetery, Route 12, Webster, MA with the Reverend Luke Veronis officiating (please meet at the cemetery). There are no calling hours. Donations in her name may be made to Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, PO Box 713, Webster, MA 01570-0713.
