Retired Boston Firefighter Robert W. "Bob" Davis, a 23-year resident of Stoneham and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at his daughter's home in Dracut. He was 84 years of age.
Bob was born in Boston on December 26, 1939, a son of the late Earle F. Davis and Evelyn R. (Brown) Davis. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and the Boston Public School system. Bob enlisted into the United States Army on October 28, 1961, and served his country with honor and pride during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged on August 10, 1962, with the rank of Private First Class. Bob was appointed to the Boston Fire Department on October 20, 1965, and served on Engine Company 36 and Engine Company 32 both stationed in Charlestown. He was later transferred to the Marine Unit and retired from there on January 31, 2001, following 36 years of dedicated service to the City of Boston. Bob was also a member of the Bull Gang at Boston Garden for over 30 years.
Bob enjoyed spending his winter months in St. Petersburg, Florida and also enjoyed visiting the track, playing cards and was an avid coin collector. He was a member of The Halligan Club of Charlestown, Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge in St. Petersburg, Florida, Irish American Club in Malden, Past Commander of American Legion Post # 388 of Somerville and member of American Legion Post # 115 of Stoneham.
Bob is the beloved husband of the late Patricia A. "Pat" (Gardner) Davis. He is the devoted father of Karen Riordan and her husband Henry, Lynne Rebelo and her husband John, Christine Gover and her husband Ronald and the late Nancy Welch and Mary Jo Davis. He is the loving Papa & Pop Pop to Kaleigh, Kasey, Lucas, Ian, Lena, Samantha, Norwood Police Officer Michael and his wife Jacqui, Shauna, Peabody Firefighter Scott and also his great-granddaughter Maeve. He is the beloved brother of Annette Kavanagh and her late husband retired Boston Fire Department Captain Edward, Lynn "Sissy" Addison and her late husband Jack, Kathryn Duggan and her partner Earl and the late Earle "Buddy" Davis and his surviving wife Marion "Winnie". He is the dear friend of retired Boston Firefighter Steve "Texi" Teixeira and his wife Marge Teixeira. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bob's visiting hours on Saturday morning, December 28, 2024, from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 12 Noon. His burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
