Alvin O. Jones
July 31, 1940 - December 23, 2024

Alvin O. “Al” Jones, 84, of Anderson passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024.

He was born on July 31, 1940 to the late Leroy and Geneva (Haddan) Jones in Putnamville, IN, where he grew to be a fine and thoughtful man. He learned resourcefulness on the family farm and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Indiana State College and his Master’s degree from Ball State University. He and his wife Leota have lived in Anderson most of their adult life.

He taught Industrial Arts at Anderson High School and then the Anderson Area Vocational Technical School for more than 30 years. He was beloved by his students and peers; he mentored and volunteered with the FIRST Robotics Team. He loved doing tool and die design work. He was a welding teacher at the Adult Vocational Night School. He created the first CAD program.

He was one of the builders for the first sanctuary at Maple Grove Church of God and was a longtime member of Maple Grove Church of God, North Anderson Church of God, and Madison Park Church of God. He served on many volunteer and ministry teams that included ushering, parking cars with the valet team, and building various stage props.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Leota (Ewbank) Jones of Anderson; two children, Bruce (Tracy) Jones of Anderson and Rita (Jay) O’Riley of Avon; a sister-in-law, Yvonne Jones of Lynn, MA; three grandchildren, Corey (Jessica) Gerard of Fort Meade, MD, Ross Parker (Payton Nunnemaker) Gerard of Muncie, and Bailey Jones (Emma Good) of Broad Ripple, IN; a great-grandson, Patrick Gerard; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Albert Jones.
Funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Pastor Shelly Stottlemyer officiating.

Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

The visitation will be from 10:00am-12:00 Noon on Friday at the funeral home.
