Obituary

Andres Otero Sr, age 69, passed away on December 20, 2024 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born on June 10, 1955 in Caugas, Puerto Rico, son of the late Carlos Otero Garcia and Eufemia Rivera Cumba. Andres worked as a school bus driver for First Student Bus Company for many years before he retired. He loved motorcycles, was an avid Patriots fan and absolutely adored his grandson. Andres was a man of many talents. He was a cook, a head chef of the Ivan Hoe. He was an excellent shady tree mechanic, a carpenter, an expert at door n windows, a roofer and siding installer, a bus driver, lover of motorcycles and also enjoyed trips to the casino. He also enjoyed flying kites. He is survived by his wife Dorie Otero of Agawam, two sons, Andres “Andy” Otero Jr and his girlfriend Kim Stone of TN, and Daniel Otero and his wife Jenn of FL; one daughter, Kaitlyn Otero and her boyfriend JD Welch of Chicopee; three brothers, Oscar Otero and his wife Ana of FL, Eddie Otero and his fiancé Elvira of Springfield; Jaime Otero and his wife Mary Rose of Holyoke; two sisters, Benita Diaz and her husband Benjamin of Puerto Rico and Aida Otero of FL; one beloved grandson, Colby Welch; many foster children, especially Andrew Bergeron and Crystal Otero and his cat Kallie. He is predeceased by his brother Ivan Otero and Ivan’s partner, Virginia. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A private burial will be held at a later date.
