ROSE (KESSLER) TUITE, age 84, of Hingham, died on Saturday, Aug. 5th at the John Scott House Nursing Center in Braintree after a long illness. Mrs. Tuite was born in Norwood and was raised educated in Canton. She came to Hingham in 1941 at the time of her marriage and for many years was a professional dressmaker both from her Hingham home and later in her shop in Hingham Square. During her later years, she became active in elder affairs in Hingham and earned her Certificate in Gerontology from UMass Boston. Mrs. Tuite was a volunteer with South Shore Elder Services and the Hingham Council on Aging. She was also an active member of the Hingham Historical Society and the Hingham Housing Authority. A lifelong learner, she obtained her drivers license at the age of 65. She was an avid gardener and gave many of her plants and flowers to friends and neighbors and they continue to grow in gardens all over the South Shore.
Wife of the late John W. Tuite, she leaves her 7 children; John J. Tuite and his wife Ann of No. Easton, Julie Tuite of Rockland, Thomas Tuite of Weymouth, Paula Mullen and her husband Greg of Franklin, Elizabeth Clark, William Tuite and his wife Theresa and Andrew Tuite and his wife Elisabeth all of Hingham. Sister of Louise Goldberg of Canton, Marie Cummings of Milo, Maine, John Kessler of Boston, the late Helen Wagner, the late Marian McKenna, the late Joseph Kessler, the late Walter Kessler and the late Edward Kessler. Sister in Law of Helen Kessler of Canton and Laura Kessler of Walpole. Also survived by 15 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 9th at 10 AM at St. Paul's Church, Hingham, Square.
Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Tuesday from 4-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Hingham Historical Society, 34 Main St., Hingham or to the Alzheimer's Assoc., P.O. Box 8462, Chicago, IL 60680-8462.
The interment is to be private.
