Obituary

Ralph Gerald Semonian, Sr., 87, of Tewksbury, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, at the Blaire House, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Edna (White) Semonian, with whom he shared over 65 wonderful years of marriage.

Born on November 24, 1937, in Boston, Ralph was the son of the late Harry and Goldie (Berry) Semonian. He grew up in Charlestown, where he developed lifelong friendships and graduated from Charlestown High School. He later earned his degree in Geology from Boston University.

After teaching for several years after college, Ralph began a successful career in software/hardware engineering. He worked for companies such as IBM, Honeywell, Raytheon, Wang, and Bose. Early in his career, he and Edna relocated several times, but soon made their home in Chelmsford, where they lived for nearly 50 years.

A man of boundless curiosity and talent, Ralph had a lifelong love for airplanes which began in childhood. He became a licensed pilot, built his own plane, and was an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association.

Ralph was equally enthusiastic about other hobbies such as trains, motorcycles, gardening, playing the piano and photography and was a longtime SAAB enthusiast. He delighted in all things mechanical and was known for his remarkable ability to fix anything. Whether it was a vehicle or building a garage to build his plane in, Ralph would figure out how to do it himself, earning admiration for his intelligence and hands-on approach.

In addition to his beloved wife Edna, Ralph is survived by his children: Ralph Semonian, Jr., and his wife Dorothy of Westford; Gail Burger and her husband Joseph of Tewksbury; and Carl Semonian and his fiancée Christina St. Pierre of Georgetown, MA. He was the proud grandfather of Jamie and Joey (Burger), who were his pride and joy.

Ralph also leaves behind his sisters Marilyn of Malden and Judy of Charlestown, his sister-in-law Sona of Milton, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Harry Semonian.

Ralph will be remembered as a brilliant, kind, and interesting man who loved his family. He inspired everyone around him with his numerous talents. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched.

His funeral service will be held at a later date.
