She leaves her two sons, Shawn O’Connor of of North Grosvenordale, CT and William O’Connor of Worcester; two daughters, Melissa O’Connor of Worcester and Crystal O’Connor of Knoxville, TN; beloved sons and daughters in law, Victoria O’Connor, Shannon O’Connor, Joseph Martin, and Justin Faciszewski; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Adam, Makenzie, Mckayla, Autumn, Adrian, Clayton O’Connor, and Nikolaus Landry; a brother, Michael Chambers; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Shirley (Gale) Chambers and a sister, Deborah Greenhalghe.
Cherie was a woman with a rich and varied life, deeply involved in her community and passionate about many activities. Born in Boston, she earned a college degree in English, reflecting her love for language and literature. Cherie’s professional life included working for the City of Worcester, where she handled payroll for the Worcester Police Department, demonstrating her attention to detail and commitment to public service. She also worked as a loan officer in the banking sector, helping individuals and families with their financial needs. Outside of work, Cherie had many hobbies and interests that brought her joy. She was an avid reader, a lover of literature who could always be found with a book in hand. Spending time with her grandchildren was one of her greatest pleasures, cherishing family moments. She was also active in her church, the Worcester County Church of Christ, where she loved spending time with her brothers and sisters in Christ, participating in services, and sharing fellowship. Baking was another of her passions, and she delighted in preparing treats for family and friends. Cherie had a special fondness for old movies, particularly silent films and black-and-white classics, which spoke to her love for the past. She was a member of the Hanover Theatre, where she enjoyed experiencing the arts. Additionally, she was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, contributing to this community organization.
Cherie’s life was marked by a deep sense of family, community involvement, and a love for the simpler, yet richer, things in life. In honor of her memory, she would have loved for everyone to wear their favorite shade of purple, a color that would forever remind us of her warmth and spirit.
Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
