Sungcha “Sung” Lee Owen (Yi) entered the presence of Jesus Christ on December 18th, 2024.
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Sungcha immigrated to the U.S. in her twenties and earned her R.N./B.S.N. at Ball State University and Anderson College. During that time, she met the love of her life, Thomas Loren Owen, and was married in April of 1977.
Sungcha had a wonderful career of eighteen years faithfully caring for women in the obstetric unit of St John’s Hospital in Anderson, Indiana. In retirement, she continued working hard as an in-home healthcare nurse.
When she was not at work helping to bring children into this world, she was lovingly and dutifully caring for her two sons, Robert Loren and Jeffrey Thomas. Robert, a medical doctor, and Jeffrey, a professional musician, were her greatest joy. She often shared with anyone who would listen how proud she was of her two sons.
In her free time, she enjoyed running with her friends and often participated in various marathons. Valuing her relationship with Jesus above all others, Sungcha was also a faithful member of Park Place Church of God and East Side Church of God.
Sungcha is survived by her husband, Thomas Loren; two sons, Robert Loren (wife Ferris) and Jeffrey Thomas (wife Heather); and her five grandchildren; from Robert: Clara, Ellie Loren, and John Mark, and from Jeffrey: Simon Thomas and Penelope. She is also survived by her three siblings in South Korea, Sung Peyong, Sung Chung and Sung Duk and their incredibly loving families.
She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, her family gratefully asks that you consider donating in her name to her favorite ministry, Compassion International.
