Obituary

CHICOPEE – Helen M. (Hooper) Joyal, 92, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. She passed into Eternal Life at the Lifecare Center of Wilbraham surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on February 17, 1932, a beloved daughter of the late Isadore and Eva (Forest) Hooper. She was raised and educated in Holyoke and moved to Chicopee in 1964 where she lived for most of her life. She was employed for many years as a book binder at the former National Blank Book Company in Holyoke but most of all, too great pride in raising her family. She was a longtime volunteer at the Fairview Knights of Columbus Council 4044 in Chicopee. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and soul mate, Roland J. “Tootsie” Joyal who was Called Home on August 29, 2003. They were married on February 27, 1954 at Saint Patrick Church in South Hadley Falls and they were blessed with over 49 years of happiness together. She leaves her two loving and devoted children, Gerald R. “Jerry” Joyal and his wife, Donna, of Stafford Springs, CT, and Gail A. Goodrow and her husband, David, of Ludlow; her four cherished grandchildren, Kristin Cressotti and her husband, Thomas, Rachel Goodrow and her partner, Brian, Billy Possardt and his wife, Cindy, and Michele Santiago and her husband, Miguel; her five cherished great grandchildren, Kaylee Joyal, Ella Cressotti, Cade Cressotti, Nora Possardt, and Alessandra Santiago; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Justin Michael Joyal; her four dear brothers, Richard, Raymond, Ernest, and Roger; and her two dear sisters, Theresa and Anita. Her funeral will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 27, 2024 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to her Mass.
