EAST WATERBORO- East Waterboro - Robert “Bob/Poppop” Applin, age 70, passed away on Dec. 17, 2024, at Maine Medical Center.
He was born in Wisconsin to his parents Elizabeth (McCafferty) and Harold Applin Sr. Being in a military family, he and his family relocated to North Dakota and Minnesota before settling in Maine in 1965. There he graduated from Thornton Academy in 1972.
In 1982 he met Carmen (Robida) Applin. They got married in 1983 and had three children, Matthew (1983), Phillip (1985) and Samantha (1986). They moved from Biddeford to East Waterboro in 1986 where he lived out the remainder of his life. Him and Carmen divorced in 2007.
Bob loved all-things sports; from neighborhood street hockey, wiffle ball, coaching his three kid’s baseball/basketball teams, to watching all New England Sports.
At 68 years old, Robert retired from Pierson’s Nurseries, where he had worked for more than 20 years. In retirement, he loved to spend time working in his yard, watching squirrels and chipmunks, and having barbecues with his family. Bob lived a quiet life that brought him happiness.
He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. When asked to think of quotes of things Bob said, many people recalled things he said that made them laugh. Bob was a great dad; he unconditionally loved and supported his three children and his three grandchildren, Trinity, Emma and Elijah.
Robert was the fourth oldest son of nine children, alongside Stewart, John, Harry, Michael, Mary Beth, Frank, Peter and Edith. He’s survived by his children, grandchildren and siblings. He’s predeceased by his parents and his brother Peter. Bob was a rock to many in his life, and he will be greatly missed.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday Dec. 28th from 2 - 4 PM, concluding with a time of sharing, at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St., Cornish.
