Obituary

Elvera “Ellie” Mavis Daugherty, age 90, of Ventura, CA, passed away peacefully at home on December 16, 2024. Ellie was born on December 23, 1933, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Alfred and Lydia Hanson. She graduated from Central High School in Aberdeen in 1951. She and her husband Richard were married on February 12, 1955. They started their family with twin girls born in 1956 and their third daughter in 1959, and moved to Ventura, CA in 1962.

Ellie was a full-time homemaker. She was a Girl Scout Leader for many years. She was an active member of the Buena Band Boosters for seven years and thoroughly enjoyed a great parade. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and she spent countless hours shuttling them to various school and extracurricular activities. Her hobbies included bowling, needlepointing, and quilting, and she was an avid reader. She was a master at “Wheel of Fortune” and could often solve the puzzles before Vanna even turned a single letter.

Ellie is survived by daughters Marie Anderson, Marcia Domene (Carlos), and Marlys Helmuth. She is also survived by grandchildren Jade Hope (Tucker), Kristina Vargas, Devon Anderson-Topey (Brett), Jeremy Anderson (Shannon), and Carlos Domene (Lola); and great-grandchildren Colton and Conway Vargas and Weston, Nolan, and Everly Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Vern, and her husband Richard.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Angel of Grace Home Health Care and Assisted Home Health & Hospice for their loving care and support.

Interment will be held at Ivy Lawn Cemetery on Monday, December 23, at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura.
