SCARBOROUGH- Scarborough – Bertron “Bert” Eugene Cox, age 83, went on to be with Jesus and departed family and friends in Heaven on December 16, 2024 days after being hospitalized.
Bert was born at home in Wilton, Maine on December 4, 1941, the son of the late Evelyn Lincoln Cox and late Cecil Bertron Cox.
Bert graduated from Wilton Academy in 1960. He met his lifelong love Gail Sharon Fuller Cox and they married on May 19, 1962. They had three children, William Anthony “Tony” Cox, Lauri Jean Cox Russo, and Jeffrey Todd Cox.
Bert was employed by Hinman Construction building bridges and doing road construction. He then went on to pursue a career as a wood craftsman. He spent many years working for Brockway-Smith Company making Andersen Windows. A true Mainer and woodcraftsman at heart he later worked for Southern Maine Firewood and spent his late years running his home business, “Bert and I Woodworking” until his death. He enjoyed his woodworking shop, a warm fire burning in the woodstove, working with wood, and talking with customers. His handcrafted lighthouses and wood crafts can be seen all over New England and beyond.
Bert loved pine wood. He loved wood stoves. He loved firewood. He loved hunting and fishing and he loved gardening.
He was predeceased by his sister Irene “Renie” Cox and brothers Boyd Richards, Sheridan Richards, Mark Richards, and John Cox.
Bert is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Gail Cox, his children Tony Cox and his fiancée Ebie Caiazzo of Portland, Lauri Russo and her husband Christopher Russo of Portland, and son Jeffrey Cox and his wife Helen of Limerick, his sister Sandra Starbird and her partner Reginald True of Livermore, his brother Jordan Richards and his wife Celine of Waterville, lots of grandchildren, great grandchildren and even a great great grandson.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 1 PM at Grace Bible Church 74 Deering Road, Gorham, Maine. Bert’s beloved friend Pastor Bob White will be officiating. There will be a meal provided after in the fellowship hall for everyone in attendance.
