Rita J. Mummert, 81, of Anderson, passed away on Friday, December 13th, 2024.
Rita was born in Paris, Kentucky, on October 11, 1943, to the late Ernest Kearns and Florence (Hopkins) Kearns. She married the love of her life, Paul “Herb” Mummert, on February 9, 1963.
Rita was full of life and joy. She was a faithful member of St. Matthews Church and Wesley Free Methodist and a member of the church choir. She was active in many community groups, wanting to give her time and compassion to others. She held many positions over the years, but her passion was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She never missed a moment or event- always being there with open arms, ready to laugh, cry, and most of all, love with all her heart.
Rita was employed at Frisch’s, Citizen’s Bank, Wilburn’s Ice Cream Shop, and Wilburn’s Video Store. After working, Rita became involved in many organizations within the community. She was a member of the Paramount Theatre (including the Paramount Tree Techs) for 24 years, the Indiana Extensions Homemakers for 15 years (including the Budget Vendors for 15 years), and the Madison County Music Makers for over 10
years.
Rita is survived by her loving husband of nearly 62 years, Paul; their son Stephen (Sharon) Mummert and daughter Stephanie (William) Powless; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Kyle) Anixter, Tad (Erica) Powless, Anastasia Painter, Jessica (Thomas) Murphy, and Thomas, Christian and Noah Mummert; and seven great-grandchildren. Rita is also survived by her sisters, Jan (Russ Chapple) Green and Caroline Morgan, and brother, Jeff (Amvic) Kearns.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Florence Kearns, and her sister, Vivian Simpson.
Funeral arrangements are being held by Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.
A funeral service honoring Rita will take place at Wesley Free Methodist located at 3017 W. 8th Street, Anderson, IN 46011, with visitation from noon – 2:00 pm on Monday, December 23, 2024.
Flowers may be sent to Wesley Free Methodist Church, or in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
