Eurico M. Picanco, 88, of Lowell, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, December 15, 2024 at Lowell General Hospital. He was the husband of Maria Alice (Chaves) Picanco with whom he shared sixty-one years of marriage.
He was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal on December 20, 1935 and was a son of the late Joao C. Picanco and the late Maria I. (Melo) Picanco. He was raised in Graciosa, where he attended the area schools and served in the Portuguese Military.
In 1973, he immigrated to the United States, settling in the Back Central Street neighborhood, before more recently residing in the Belvidere neighborhood.
Eurico devoted his career to being a gifted carpenter, both in Graciosa and here in America. He also worked at Joan Fabrics for several years until his retirement in the 1990’s.
He loved gardening and he loved music, played several instruments, such as the guitar, violin, and any stringed instrument he was a natural at. He loved music especially at all the Portuguese feasts in Lowell.
In addition to his wife, Maria Alice, he is survived by his siblings, Maria Bettencourt of Florida, Firmilindo Picanco and his wife, Teresa of Lowell, Agostinho Picanco and his wife, Maria of Lowell; his in laws, Domingos Chaves and his wife, Zelia of Tewksbury, Philomena Mendonca and her husband, Manuel of Tewksbury, Genoveva Silva and her husband, Manuel of Tewksbury; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Arcelina Espinola, the late Isolino M. Picanco and the late Valentin Picanco.
On Wednesday, December 18, 2024 all are welcome to attend his funeral mass at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 893 Central Street, Lowell. Please meet directly at church.
