Richard L. Avery of Hanson, MA passed away suddenly on December 13th at his home. Born in Whitman, MA in 1933 the second son of Gladys (Prouty) and Alexander Avery.
He is a graduate from Whitman High School, class of 1951. Richard served in the Army during the Korean War and later attended Northeastern University. After graduating he became a civil engineer for the town of Whitman, then he started his own business, later he decided to return to supervise for the Whitman DPW until his retirement. In 1953 he married Shirley Elaine Ransom and remained happily married for the next 71 years.
He was predeceased by his son Richard W. Avery, as well as his brothers, Robert, and William. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, his baby brother, Donald Avery and his two sons, Scott L. Avery, and Brian C. Avery. His daughters-in law Paula Avery (Stewert) and Angela Avery (Randall). He had seven grandchildren, Andera, Jake, Chance, Rachel, Rebecca, Faith, and Nathan, also five great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend Richard’s visiting hours Thursday December 19th from 4:00-700 PM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the Blanchard Funeral Chapel) Whitman. A funeral service will be held Friday December 20th at 11:00 AM at the funeral chapel, with a burial to follow at the Fern Hill Cemetery, Hanson.
