William J. Thompson, Sr., 61, of Salem, NH died Thursday at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston after a long illness.
He was born and educated in Lawrence, MA and had lived in Salem, NH for 42 years. He served his country during the Vietnam War & Korean War in the US Army as a Ranger with the 82nd Airborne Division.
William was a self employed truck driver. He was a member of the Lawrence United Masonic Lodge, where he was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Lawrence, Lowell & Boston, a member of the Shiners, American Legion and DAV. William was a ham radio operator with the call letters WB1DDD.
He was the son of the late Albert Thompson & Rita Guilmette

Calling hours are Monday from 5-8PM at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. A Masonic Service will be held at 5PM.
A Funeral Mass will be Tuesday at 10 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, Salem. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH.
