Mary B. Goguen, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on December 13, 2024, in Berlin, Vermont.
Born in Kildysart, County Clare, Ireland, on July 5, 1927, to Martin and Ellen (O’Connell) Dundon. Mom had a wonderful childhood growing up with her eight siblings on a dairy farm located on the shores of the River Shannon Estuary. Mom emigrated to the United States in 1947, where she met Donald J. Buckley, whom she married in 1959. They had two children, Sean and Clare.
Don sadly passed away in 1965. Mom found love again and married Theodore Goguen in 1983. Mom lived in Newton, Massachusetts, for over 50 years before moving closer to her children. Mom loved her family and was the best mother. Mom was a woman of strong faith, which sustained her through her life. An excellent cook, Mom enjoyed nothing more than hosting a gathering of her extended family for a meal or spending a summer Sunday afternoon with them at Castle Island in South Boston.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Clare Buckley, and her husband, Michael Obuchowski; daughter-in-law, Amy Buckley; grandchildren, Eve Buckley, Gwyneth Buckley, Jack Obuchowski, and Nora Obuchowski; her brother, Michael Dundon, and his wife, Bridie; her sister, Kitty Donohue; her sisters-in-law, Ann Marie Dundon, Maura Dundon, and Mary Dundon; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved son Sean; her parents, Martin and Ellen; her husband Donald; her second husband Theodore; her sister-in-law Kathleen McCormack and her husband Owen; and her brothers, John and his wife Jane; Sinon and his wife Eileen; Tom and his wife Marie; Martin, Ned, and Peter.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street, Newton, MA 02458. A funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Immediately following Mass, the burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury, Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
