Eileen B. (McGonagle) Fleming, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She was 87 years of age.
Eileen was born in Boston on January 30, 1937, a daughter of the late Patrick McGonagle and Helen (Canny) McGonagle. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Mary's Parochial School and graduate from Charlestown High School in 1954. Eileen worked as a Para-Professional in Boston Public Schools for 44 years, working at both the Kent Elementary School and Charlestown High School. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed going to the beach, and was proud of her Irish Heritage. She also loved traveling to Saratoga with her husband Buzzy. You could be sure to find Eileen at the Warren Tavern every Friday. She was a member of the Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association and the Somerville City Club.
Eileen is the beloved wife of the late Joseph D. "Buzzy" Fleming Jr. She is the devoted mother of Sharon Sullivan and her late husband Rick, Lynne Woods, and Joseph D. Fleming III and his companion Jillian Stevens. She is the loving Nana of Kathleen, Michael, Kelleigh and her husband Scott, the late John Woods III, and to her great-grandson Benjamin Richard. She is the dear sister of the late Frances Hall, Anne Greatorex, Sadie Fallon, Marjorie Carr, Joseph McGonagle, Patrick McGonagle, Philip McGonagle, Mary Hickey, and John McGonagle. She is also survived be many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Eileen's Visiting Hours on Wednesday morning December 18, 2024 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass at 12 Noon in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Her burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
