Loren Bernard Shields died in his sleep on November 27, 2024, in Corona, California. He was born on July 25, 1950, during a storm in Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, to Clyde and Virginia (née Williams) Shields. He graduated from Imperial High School in Pasadena, California, in 1968. There he met Dorella Marvin, whom he married Dec 26, 1971. They were married 49 years and 2 months before her death in February of 2021. Out of their union, they had 3 children.
Loren worked in forestry out of high school, then bookbinding, factory work, and various other jobs. In the mid-1980s he and his family went to the Philippines to help run Miracle Mission, the church and school his father founded. Returning to the states and settling in San Bernardino, he worked with various church ministries preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. In later years, he and Dorella lived in Santa Paula enjoying their little farmhouse amongst the oranges. He loved Dorella deeply and they enjoyed visits by their grandchildren.
Loren had completed four unpublished works, documenting his struggles to return to “walking the walk” of life as a Christian while creatively incorporating the wit and humor that we all knew and loved about him. Besides that, his social media page called Life Worth Living showcased his writing talent, compiling Bible verses and their meanings in a fun and easy-to-read daily devotional for over 1,600 subscribers. He was quick to help those who needed prayer and spiritual guidance as well as anything he could help with physically.
Loren will always be remembered as a God fearing man, sharing the word of God, loving his family and friends, warm weather, reading, writing, and telling jokes.
Loren B. Shields is survived by his 3 children, 9 grandchildren, a sister and brother, numerous nieces and nephews, a godson, and beloved friends. May he rest in peace.
