HOLLIS- Sheryl Learned DeRoche, 67, formerly of Portland and Hollis, was finally released from her earthly suffering on 12/11/24. Sheryl had battled early onset dementia since 2019, and is now free from this torment, having passed peacefully and comfortably, with close family at her side.
Sheryl “Freddy” was widely known for her vibrant, infectious smile and quippy one-liners. Her jovial, positive, humorous manner carried her through this most somber period. Sheryl accepted her final experiences with incredible grace and humility. She maintained a remarkable trust and faith in God, her family and caregivers, and was justly rewarded warmth and thoughtful care on earth while awaiting her spot in Heaven.
Sheryl had a passion for music and hockey, and attended many concerts, festivals and games. In particular, she was a lifelong fan of Billy Joel and Boston, and was jokingly considered an official couch coach for the Boston Bruins.
Sheryl was devoted to her family, spending years as den mother to her children’s scout expeditions and encouraging their creative pursuits in music, art, dance and theatre. She spent her career working in several nursing and assisted living homes, retiring from work in 2019 after 15 years with The Park Danforth.
Sheryl was incredibly devoted to her faith in God, and found her home with the East Waterboro Free Baptist Church. Their pastor and congregation have been instrumental in supporting her on this spiritual journey during this period.
Sheryl is survived by her husband, children, sister and other loving family members and many treasured friends.
In remembrance of Sheryl, it is requested that you carry her bright light with you when traveling to her special places: Diana’s Bath, Echo Lake, Pine Point Beach and Mackworth Island.
Additionally, it would be an honor and thoughtful tribute for you to place a donation In Memory of Sheryl to the Ladies’ Ministry, c/o Free Baptist Church of East Waterboro, PO Box 216, 213 Main Street, East Waterboro, Maine 04030.
Funeral preparations will be arranged by Chad Poitras Cremation & Funeral Services, with her celebration of life and spirit to take place at the Free Baptist Church of East Waterboro, 213 Main St, on Saturday 1/4/25 at 11am, with refreshments to follow at noon.
