It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Claude Randall "Randy" Huskey, a devoted son, father, uncle, grandpa, and husband, on Friday, November 22, 2024, at St. John's Hospital, Oxnard, CA. Randy's devoted wife of 65 years, Barbara, was at his side when complications due to dementia took his life.
Randy's legacy lives on through his daughters: Rev. Cynthia Huskey; Jennifer Foster, husband, Ronald; and Melinda Donofrio, husband Douglas; and cherished grandchildren: Cameron Huskey; Michaela Donofrio; Nichole Donofrio; Kylie Donofrio; Jacob Foster and girlfriend, Ashley; and Madison Donofrio.
Randy was born at home in Strawberry, AR, on February 20, 1941, to Claude Marvin and June Huskey. Randy and his parents moved to Ventura when he was in first grade. His younger sister, Sheila Pullen, husband Charles, was born several years after Randy and his parents moved to Ventura. Randy graduated from Ventura High School, Class of 1959 and received his AA Degree from Ventura College.
Randy married his high school sweetheart, Barbara (VHS Class of 1960) on October 16, 1959, in Las Vegas, NV at the ages of 18 and 17. Randy and Barbara welcomed their first daughter, Cynthia, in 1961. Their family was complete with the birth of two additional daughters, Jennifer in 1970 and Melinda in 1971.
Randy worked at ABEX Corporation as a Drill Press Operator, later becoming a Precision Grinder, and ending his 31-year career in Quality Control. He retired in 1993 and soon became known as the "Neighborhood Gardener" when he began mowing lawns for his neighbors and tending to the grounds at College United Methodist Church.
Sports were a huge part of Randy's life. Randy participated in numerous bowling, basketball and slow-pitch softball leagues. He soon found himself volunteering his time coaching girls' fast-pitch softball and basketball. Randy served Tri-Valley Girls' Softball League as a coach, umpire, and President. He was a scorekeeper for both Buena High School Girls Soccer and Softball teams, and kept the "shot chart" for the BHS Girls' Basketball team.
Besides volunteering his time helping youth sports, Randy loved to travel the United States, visiting historical sites and national landmarks. He also loved to take quarterly trips to Las Vegas, NV.
Randy lived a life centered around family, church, friends and neighbors. His was a life in where everyone who met him, loved him instantly. He was one of the Good Souls always putting others first.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 11:00am at Ventura First United Methodist Church, 1338 E Santa Clara Street, Ventura with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to St. Jude's Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
