We gather here today to honor and celebrate the long and fulfilling life of James Anthony Tatum, born on October 6, 1937, to Scholar Mae Mooney and Sam Tatum in Montgomery, Alabama.
James was united in holy matrimony to Georgia Tatum 56 years ago, on November 22, in Muncie, Indiana. Their enduring love and partnership are a testament to their commitment and devotion to each other.
James was employed by General Motors Corporation holding many different positions and was a member of the UAW Local 662 before retirement after thirty years of service in 1999. He was known throughout the community for his generous spirit and unwavering dedication. It was often said that "James never met a stranger." Throughout his many years, James was a pillar of the community, known for his kindness and compassion. He was an avid Little League coach, sharing his love for sports and mentoring young athletes. Additionally, he volunteered with the Special Olympics, bringing joy and support to many.
James Anthony Tatum transitioned from this life to the next on December 9, 2024, at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his parents, Scholar Mae Moony and Sam Tatum, and his brothers, Robert Turner, Milton Turner, Roosevelt Turner, Earl Mooney, and Eddie Mooney, Jr.
Together, James and Georgia built a family filled with love, kindness, and compassion. Their four children, Bernetta White married to (Timothy) White, Buford Tatum married to (Gloria)Tatum, Vincent Tatum and (Charlotte) Ingram, and Kathy Tatum, were all blessed to be part of James's legacy.
James leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Georgia A. Tatum; his step-father, Eddie Mooney, Sr.; his sister, Della Rawls; his sons, Buford and Vincent; his daughters, Bernetta and Kathy; his grandchildren, Tavonie, Asauhn, LaVonte, Xavier, Essence, Ishmeal, Rasauhn, and Zahria; his great-grandchildren, Tristin, Jasmine, Helena, August, Lorenzo, Skye, Axani, Amani, and Axai’Yah; and countless friends.
To know James was to love him. He touched countless lives with his kindness and compassion. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will always remember him. James Tatum's life was a shining example of dedication, love, and community service. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Funeral service will be at 1:00pm on Monday, December 16, 2024 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Minister Buford Tatum officiating. A private burial will take place in Gardens of Memory in Muncie.
Visitation will be from 11:00am - 1:00pm on Monday at the funeral home.
