Obituary

Irene Bagus, 85, of Smithfield, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on December 9th surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Adam Bagus. They had been married for 61 years.

Born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late Adam and Agnes (Kapitulik) Levicki. Irene displayed exceptional talent as a drum majorette and baton twirler for the PNA Drum Corps, proudly marching in city parades. After meeting Adam, they eventually settled in Rhode Island, where they built a life centered on love, family, and community.

Irene devoted herself to raising her children, Mark Bagus of East Greenwich, David Bagus of Greenville, Jean Fraize and son-in-law Douglas Fraize of Lincoln, with love and care. She embraced her role as a mother and later as a cherished Babcia (grandmother) to her grandchildren, Sydney Bagus and Ryan and Carly Fraize. She was the sister of the late Adam E. “Eddie” Levicki.

For over 45 years, Irene was an active member of Rally Point Tennis Club, where she became a skilled tennis player and later worked as an administrative coordinator, at the VA Hospital in Providence and formed many lasting friendships. She also had a passion for travel and delighted in creating beautiful, handmade crocheted blankets, each marked with her signature tag, “Handmade by Irene,” which are treasured keepsakes for family and friends.

Irene’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, creating countless cherished memories. Her kindness, creativity, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of Irene’s life will be held Tuesday December 17th at 9am from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Smithfield. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held Monday December 16th from 4-7pm.
